JEAN DE LA FONTAINE

A fable as amusing and whimsical as La Fontaine's own classics, Jean de La Fontaine traces the young poet's confrontation with Colbert, financial administrator for Louis XIV's Kingdom of France.

In 1661, Colbert gets his rival Fouquet arrested, a powerful advisor of the young king. Unlike other artists, La Fontaine confirms his support for Fouquet and even when penniless, stands by his convictions, writing the Fables, which protest against a despotic government in the height of its decline.
Daniel Vigne's drama is a spectacle of classic dimensions unveiling La Fontaine as a free spirit and a great lover of life.
